The Rheumatic Disease Center (Division of Rheumatology, Department of Internal Medicine) of Toho University Omori Medical Center specializes in rheumatic diseases including rheumatoid arthritis. At the Rheumatic Disease Center we work together with orthopedic surgeons so that we can smoothly provide medical consultation and examination for patients who need orthopedic treatment such as surgery. At present, our staff includes 10 specialists in rheumatology and 5 specialists in general internal medicine who are in charge of daily medical consultation and examination in our department. Recently, we have been using molecular targeted drugs widely, which are mainly biological products. Correspondingly, treatment of rheumatic disease is making remarkable progress and prognoses are improving. We proactively introduce novel drugs as well as take part in clinical trials for investigating new drugs.
In addition, we educate medical students at Toho University and junior residents in Toho University Omori Medical Center about rheumatology. As a responsible educational body, we aim to foster superior physicians.
Furthermore, we are conducting basic research and clinical studies for the purpose of clarifying pathological conditions of rheumatic diseases, improving methods of treatment, developing novel drugs, and making a lot of achievements.
